The 2020 release wave 2 for Dynamics 365 contains significant new features across Dynamics 365 applications including Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, Commerce, Fraud Protection, and Business Central.

In this blog, we will focus on features released for Dynamics 365 Finance.

Dynamics 365 Finance

We can populate them to generated business documents such as orders, invoices, packing slips, and receipts, or different kinds of labels such as product and shelf labels, and packaging and shipping labels.

We can generate bar codes in the following formats:

One-dimensional bar codes:

  • Codabar,Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, EAN-8, EAN-13, ITF-14, PDF417, UPC-A, UPC-E, MSI, Plessey

Two-dimensional bar codes:

  • Aztec, DataMatrix, QR Code

Configurable business documents conversion to PDF

This feature allows conversion for any business document generated in Excel or Word via a new setting to PDF – in Electronic reporting destination setup for a given report.

We can also set up the orientation of the document as to portrait or landscape depending on our preference and business requirements.

Direct Printing support

This feature lets you select printer destinations for electronic reporting destinations of Word, Excel, and PDF-based configurations. This setup is then used to send PDF documents (either converted from Word or Excel, or documents that were generated in PDF format) to the Document Routing Agent (DRA).

Word templates

This functionality delivers well-designed Microsoft Word template capabilities in phases.

Phase 1 (June 2020) includes:

  • Sales order confirmation, Sales order packing slip, Sales quotation, Sales quotation confirmation, Vendor invoice document, Payment advice, Picking list

Phase 2 (September 2020) includes:

  • Sales advance invoice, Collection letter note, Purchase order packing slip, Bill of lading Information about other Word templates, including the phases and timing of their delivery, will be provided at a later time.

So basically you can open the document in word desktop app, and in the design mode you can see the XML Mapping, you can custom design your document and save it to the Dynamics 365 and use the same to create reports. This data is populated by word content control and not by JAR.

In the print management setup you can see the new template for the document you created in word, to be used for generating the report.
